FAQ's

What is the early bird prize?
The early bird prize is a Pearl Izumi prize pack worth over $500 and your entry fee refunded.

What will the race rules be?
As our event is a TRINZ endorsed event we will be following the TRINZ guidelines. Check them out online.

How many aid stations are there on the bike and run?
On the bike there is one bottle swap on Broadlands Road that you will get twice if required. On the run there are two aid stations; one on the lake front and the other at 2 mile bay sailing centre. Both of these will have Balance and water available.

Do we have to bring our wetsuit to registration?
It is compulsory that you bring your wetsuit to registration as the Department of Conservation have to wash everyones wetsuit before entering the lake in case of contamination with Didymo. If we do not protect Lake Taupo we will be swimming in an at risk lake like the lakes in Rotorua.

Are there any time limits?
No is the short answer. However, if the organisers think it would be unsafe for you to carry on they will reason with you and you may be pulled from the course. For example if you are not a compitent swimmer and conditions are less than perfect you will be assessed by our swim director and may be asked to stop.

Is the course exactly the same as the full length Ironman event?
No it is a condensed version. The swim is exactly half the length in a similar fashion except you do not have to run to Tongariro domain. The bike is very similar but instead of going along the lake front it takes you up Spa Road and out broadlands then left onto View Road. This enables you to get the full 90km without coming back into town. The run is out to Rainbow point and back twice which is half way along the full distance course.

When are entries being taken for 2009?
We are taking entries now.

Can teams enter?
Teams are more than welcome and this was a very competitive section in the event last year. Encourage your work mates to get involved and lay down a challenge for another business you deal with.

When do entries close?
Early bird entries close on the 29th of August, early entries close on the 29th of November. Late entries close on the 9th of December. This will cost you an extra $20.

Are there age limits?
You must be 18 or over to compete as an individual. Under 18's can compete as a team with their parent or guardians permission.

Whats the weather going to be like?
It will be calm and clear looking into our crystal ball!
